Counselling & Psychotherapy with Gareth Taylor

For calm, clarity, and connection.

Life can feel overwhelming at times. Perhaps you’ve been holding things together for too long, or you sense that something needs to change but you’re not sure where to begin.

Therapy offers a space to pause, make sense of your experiences, and start to move forward with greater awareness and confidence.

I offer integrative counselling and psychotherapy, both in person in Tenterden, Kent and online, tailored to your individual needs and pace.

Welcome

A calm, confidential space to help you make sense of things and move forward.

My Approach

I work integratively, which means I draw from a range of therapeutic models – adapting our sessions to suit your personality, goals, and lived experience rather than following a single method. This includes:

  • Person-Centred: empathy and authenticity
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): structure and tools
  • Psychodynamic: depth and insight into patterns
  • Gestalt: awareness and creativity

This flexibility allows us to meet you where you are – gently exploring the past, making sense of the present, and creating space for new possibilities.

“Therapy isn’t about fixing who you are – it is about understanding yourself with honesty and compassion.”

What You Can Expect

From our first conversation, you will find a calm, respectful atmosphere where you can speak openly without fear of judgement. We will begin by exploring what brings you here and what you hope to gain from therapy.

Together, we’ll create a focus for our work – whether that is managing anxiety, processing loss, or developing a stronger sense of self-worth. I will listen carefully, ask reflective questions, and sometimes gently challenge you to notice patterns or beliefs that may be holding you back.

Therapy is a shared journey – not me telling you what to do, but helping you discover what feels right for you.

Areas I Commonly Work With

  • Anxiety, panic, and stress
  • Low mood and depression
  • Trauma, past or recent
  • Grief and loss
  • Relationship issues
  • Confidence and self-esteem
  • Life transitions, uncertainty, or change

Each person’s story is unique. Our work focuses on you as a whole person – your emotions, relationships, history, and hopes for the future.

Session Structure & Fees

Therapy is offered in person (Tenterden, Kent) and online (UK & International), depending on your preference and location. Sessions are usually weekly or fortnightly, and can be short or long term, depending on your needs and goals.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Gentle answers to the things people often wonder before starting therapy.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

If you’re reading this, it’s likely that something in your life feels unsettled — maybe you feel stuck, low, anxious, or simply unsure what you need. Therapy can help you make sense of those feelings, find perspective, and reconnect with your confidence and clarity. You don’t have to be in crisis to begin — many people start when they want a space to reflect, grow, or understand themselves better.

What happens in the first session?

The first session is about getting to know each other. You’ll have time to talk about what brings you here and what you hope to gain. I’ll explain how I work and answer any questions you have, so you can get a sense of whether this feels like the right fit. There’s no pressure to continue — it’s an opportunity to see how the space feels for you.

How often will we meet?

Most clients start with weekly sessions, as this allows us to build momentum and trust. As therapy progresses, sessions may move to fortnightly or monthly depending on your needs and circumstances. Consistency is important, but so is flexibility — we’ll find a rhythm that works for you.

How long will I need therapy for?

That depends on your goals and what you want to explore. Some people come for a few sessions to focus on a specific issue, while others stay longer to work through deeper patterns or long-term challenges. We’ll review progress regularly and agree together when it feels right to end.

What if I'm nervous about starting therapy?

That’s completely natural. Most people feel some uncertainty before opening up to someone new. Part of our work together is creating a calm, non-judgmental space where you can take things at your own pace. You’re free to share as much or as little as feels comfortable — therapy is always about choice, not pressure.

Do you offer online sessions?

Yes. I offer secure online sessions via Zoom for clients across the UK and overseas. Many people find online therapy convenient, effective, and just as personal as meeting in person. You’re welcome to combine in-person and online sessions if that suits your lifestyle.

How do I book or pay for sessions?

You can book by:

Payment is made at the time of booking via bank transfer or secure online link. I kindly ask for 48 hours’ notice for cancellations; sessions cancelled later than this may be charged in full.

Are sessions confidential?

Yes. Everything we discuss remains confidential, within professional ethical and legal boundaries. I adhere to the NCPS Code of Ethical Practice, which ensures that your privacy and safety are always prioritised.

What's the difference between Counselling and Psychotherapy?

In my practice, there’s overlap between the two. Counselling often focuses on specific challenges and finding practical ways forward. Psychotherapy tends to explore deeper themes, patterns, and long-term personal growth. We’ll decide together what kind of approach feels most useful for you — there’s no single “right” way to do therapy.

Can I contact you between sessions?

For brief, practical matters such as rescheduling or confirming details, yes. For anything more therapeutic in nature, it’s best brought to our next session, where we can give it the time and attention it deserves.

How do I get started?

You can begin with a free 10–15 minute introductory call to talk about what you’re looking for and ask any questions. There’s no commitment — just a chance to connect and see if it feels right.
