Counselling & Psychotherapy
A steady, thoughtful space to talk things through and make sense of what’s going on.
Life doesn’t usually fall apart all at once.
More often, things slowly build – thoughts that won’t switch off, emotions that feel harder to manage, or a sense that you’re carrying more than you should have to on your own.
Counselling offers space to pause, slow things down, and understand what’s been shaping your experience – without judgement or pressure to have it all worked out.
I offer integrative counselling and psychotherapy, both in person in Tenterden, Kent and online, working at a pace that feels right for you.
Welcome
Therapy with me is steady, human, and focused on what matters most to you.
You don’t need to know exactly what you want to talk about before you begin. Some people arrive with a clear reason. Others arrive with a feeling – something isn’t sitting right, or life feels heavier than it used to.
Our work starts wherever you are.
How I Work
I work integratively, which means I don’t follow a fixed formula or a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, I adapt our sessions to suit you – your personality, your history, and what you’re dealing with right now.
Some sessions are practical and grounding. Others are slower and more reflective. We might explore long-standing patterns, or focus on something happening in the present.
At its core, therapy with me is a conversation – real, thoughtful, and collaborative.
I won’t tell you what to think or how to feel.
My role is to help you understand yourself more clearly, so you can make choices that feel right for you.
“Therapy isn’t about fixing who you are – it is about understanding yourself with honesty and compassion.”
What You Can Expect
From our first conversation, you’ll be met with a calm, respectful atmosphere where you can speak openly and honestly.
We’ll take time to explore:
-
what’s brought you to therapy
-
what feels most important right now
-
what you hope might change or feel different
I’ll listen carefully, reflect what I’m hearing, and sometimes gently point out patterns or beliefs that may be keeping things stuck. This isn’t about criticism – it’s about awareness and choice.
Therapy is something we do together.
Not me fixing you – but working alongside you as you make sense of your own experience.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Gentle answers to the things people often wonder before starting therapy.
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you’re reading this, it’s likely that something in your life feels unsettled – maybe you feel stuck, low, anxious, or simply unsure what you need. Therapy can help you make sense of those feelings, find perspective, and reconnect with your confidence and clarity. You don’t have to be in crisis to begin – many people start when they want a space to reflect, grow, or understand themselves better.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is about getting to know each other. You’ll have time to talk about what brings you here and what you hope to gain. I’ll explain how I work and answer any questions you have, so you can get a sense of whether this feels like the right fit. There’s no pressure to continue – it’s an opportunity to see how the space feels for you.
How often will we meet?
Most clients start with weekly sessions, as this allows us to build momentum and trust. As therapy progresses, sessions may move to fortnightly or monthly depending on your needs and circumstances. Consistency is important, but so is flexibility – we’ll find a rhythm that works for you.
How long will I need therapy for?
That depends on your goals and what you want to explore. Some people come for a few sessions to focus on a specific issue, while others stay longer to work through deeper patterns or long-term challenges. We’ll review progress regularly and agree together when it feels right to end.
What if I'm nervous about starting therapy?
That’s completely natural. Most people feel some uncertainty before opening up to someone new. Part of our work together is creating a calm, non-judgmental space where you can take things at your own pace. You’re free to share as much or as little as feels comfortable – therapy is always about choice, not pressure.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes. I offer secure online sessions via Zoom for clients across the UK and overseas. Many people find online therapy convenient, effective, and just as personal as meeting in person. You’re welcome to combine in-person and online sessions if that suits your lifestyle.
How do I book or pay for sessions?
You can book by:
- Email – info@garethtaylorcounselling.com
- Telephone – 07957 346 583.
- Use the Contact Form
Payment is made at the time of booking via bank transfer or secure online link. I kindly ask for 24 hours’ notice for cancellations; sessions cancelled later than this will be charged in full.
Are sessions confidential?
Yes. Everything we discuss remains confidential, within professional ethical and legal boundaries. I adhere to the NCPS Code of Ethical Practice, which ensures that your privacy and safety are always prioritised.
What's the difference between Counselling and Psychotherapy?
In my practice, there’s overlap between the two. Counselling often focuses on specific challenges and finding practical ways forward. Psychotherapy tends to explore deeper themes, patterns, and long-term personal growth. We’ll decide together what kind of approach feels most useful for you – there’s no single “right” way to do therapy.
Can I contact you between sessions?
For brief, practical matters such as rescheduling or confirming details, yes. For anything more therapeutic in nature, it’s best brought to our next session, where we can give it the time and attention it deserves.
How do I get started?
You can begin with a free 10–15 minute introductory call to talk about what you’re looking for and ask any questions. There’s no commitment – just a chance to connect and see if it feels right.
