Clinical Supervision with Gareth Taylor
A thoughtful, steady space to reflect on your work – and yourself as a practitioner.
Supervision isn’t just a professional requirement. At its best, it’s a place to pause, think clearly, and stay connected to why you do this work in the first place.
Whether you’re a trainee still finding your footing or an experienced practitioner wanting a reflective, supportive space, supervision offers time to slow things down and talk honestly about the realities of the work – without judgement or pressure.
I offer clinical supervision both in person in Tenterden, Kent and online.
Welcome to Supervision
Supervision with me is calm, confidential, and human.
It’s a space where you can speak openly about your clinical work — including the parts that feel uncertain, demanding, or emotionally complex — and know that it will be met with thoughtfulness, care, and ethical clarity.
There’s no expectation to have everything neatly worked out. Supervision is where we think together.
How I Work As a Supervisor
I see supervision as an ongoing professional conversation rather than a checklist or interrogation.
Our work together is collaborative and reflective, supporting you to:
-
develop confidence and clarity in your clinical thinking
-
work ethically and safely within professional frameworks
-
look after yourself alongside your work with clients
Supervision isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being thoughtful, honest, and supported.
Our sessions are shaped around three core functions, held in balance
🧩 Learning & Development
A space to grow your practice.
We reflect on your clinical work, theoretical understanding, and responses as a practitioner. This includes exploring patterns, developing self-awareness, and strengthening your confidence – not through criticism, but through curiosity and reflection.
⚖️ Ethics & Professional Standards
Holding the work safely.
Supervision provides a clear ethical frame, ensuring your work aligns with professional standards and membership requirements. We explore ethical dilemmas in a grounded, real-world way – keeping ethics practical rather than abstract.
💬 Support & Wellbeing
Looking after the therapist.
Therapeutic work can be emotionally demanding. Supervision offers a place to breathe, process what the work stirs up, and avoid carrying things alone – supporting sustainability as well as effectiveness.
My Integrative Supervision Approach
My supervisory style is integrative and relational, with a clear reflective structure.
I draw from:
-
Person-centred principles – authenticity, empathy, and genuine engagement
-
CBT and Transactional Analysis – structure, reflection, and awareness of process
-
Psychodynamic thinking – including transference, countertransference, and unconscious dynamics
I also work flexibly with established supervision frameworks such as Hawkins & Shohet’s 7-Eyed Model and Page & Wosket’s Cyclical Model, adapting them to suit the supervisee rather than forcing a rigid format.
Who I Work With
I provide supervision for:
-
qualified counsellors and psychotherapists
-
trainee counsellors on diploma or degree programmes
-
coaches and allied professionals
-
mental health practitioners and support workers
Whether newly qualified or well-established, supervision can support clearer thinking, deeper self-awareness, and a more sustainable way of working.
